Hourly Pay Rates In Pharmacy

TL;DR - hourly wages are relatively consistent regardless of the specific area of pharmacy.

Previous Pharmacist Compensation newsletters and social media posts tend to reference the total annual wages reported by participants. However, many readers have requested a breakdown of hourly rates. Let’s dive in.

At the time of publishing, 891 full time pharmacists submitted data in 2024. Roughly 45% of the participants (402 pharmacists) indicated they are paid hourly versus the remaining ~55% that are salaried. The median hourly pay rate of all 402 pharmacists was $66. There was slightly more variation when stratifying the data between different areas of pharmacy.

However, when considering the total annual wages, these variations in the hourly rates seem less impactful.

Only one area of pharmacy, Outpatient Oncology Infusion, had a significantly higher median annual wage. It was also the area of pharmacy with the highest median hourly rate ($70).

In conclusion, the early 2024 data suggests hourly wages are relatively consistent regardless of the specific area of pharmacy.

Pharmacist Compensation provided the data displayed in the above charts. Join thousands of pharmacists and take the anonymous survey. All participants receive access to an interactive dashboard that can be filtered by Job Title, Company, City/State, Area of Pharmacy, and more.
