Flexible Pharmacist Jobs For The Win
Last month, the 2024 Pharmacist Compensation Annual Report was released early to all newsletter subscribers. However, the report did not include any data regarding the physical work location of the survey participants. Let’s take a deeper look at the 2,721 full time pharmacists from last year’s survey.
The Pharmacist Compensation survey asked participants to define their work location based on the following definitions:
Work at home - a position requiring work to be done from a designated area within the home.
Hybrid - a position that mixes on-site/in-office work and work at home/remote work.
Field-based - a position continuously working from different locations, usually in an assigned territory.
Remote - the most flexible position allowing work to be done from any location.
Unsurprisingly, most pharmacists (77.1%), reported working on-site for their position. Only 6.7% of participants reported a remote position.

Less than 1% of participants in Managed Care/PBM positions reported working on-site. On the flip side, and as expected, more than 90% of Community/Retail and Hospital pharmacists reported working on site.

The next chart may catch some people by surprise. Pharmacists in the on-site cohort consistently reported the lowest median compensation.

Pouring salt in the wound, the on-site cohort also reported the lowest job satisfaction compared to other cohorts.

If you work on-site and are looking for more flexibility, my message from a previous newsletter still applies. Don’t hold yourself back from applying to other jobs because of a false notion of lower compensation. Chances are, you’ll make more money and have higher job satisfaction.

Pharmacist Compensation provided the data displayed in the above charts. Join thousands of pharmacists and take the anonymous survey. All participants receive access to an interactive dashboard that can be filtered by Job Title, Company, Area of Pharmacy, and more.
