Exploring the job market: A look at the competition

As we approach the end of 2025, it is not uncommon to start planning for the upcoming year. Some of us might be looking for a new role and/or new organization. This month’s newsletter aims to give insights on the competition out in the market.

The 2025 Pharmacist Compensation survey requests participants to identify if they are searching for new jobs. The data from about 1,800 pharmacists indicates ~48% of participants are job searching.

Focusing on the 693 pharmacists who are already in full time positions, ~25% are either PGY1 or PGY2 trained. The graph below shows most (~85%) of the pharmacist job seekers are in the more common areas of pharmacy. Especially, retail and hospital pharmacists.

The Pharmacist Compensation survey isn’t designed to find out “why” pharmacists are seeking new opportunities. However, job satisfaction and professional growth data is collected and might provide some insights.

Searching for a new job can be challenging. You have to decide which direction you want to take your career, identify the right opportunities, and dedicate time and effort to updating your CV. Then comes the competition with other qualified candidates. Again, the Pharmacist Compensation survey is not designed to evaluate why pharmacists are seeking jobs. However, the survey does provide some insights including that up to 50% of your peers might also be searching for jobs. Think about that for a second. That is a lot of competition if extrapolating to the entire market.

The point is, the process takes time but persistence pays off. Apply often, keep refining your CV and interview skills, and stay motivated. Happy job hunting, and good luck!

Pharmacist Compensation provided the data displayed in the above charts. Join thousands of pharmacists and take the anonymous survey. All participants receive access to an interactive dashboard that can be filtered by Job Title, Company, Area of Pharmacy, and more.

For the rest of 2025, all participants in the survey will receive a 30 day free subscription to Pharmacist Compensation’s most popular product, the Remote Job Email List.
